Jenny has a background in ceramics, working as a potter for 27 years and has a wealth of teaching experience having run a variety of courses throughout her long career. In her mosaic work she likes to use mainly old discarded crockery with inclusions of glass, glass beads, found objects, handmade porcelain and other high firing clay pieces.

What you will do on the course This introductory course will concentrate on the use of broken crockery as the main decorative mosaic material. Each student will make a piece such as a decorative panel or framed mirror.

What you should bring with you You will need to bring with you a pair of nippers for cutting your tesserae (you can buy these from a tile warehouse), a pair of protective glasses, a small plastic kitchen spatular and any crockery, glass beads, buttons, tiles and other objects that you may want to use. Good sources of crockery can be car boot sales, jumble sales, auction houses and charity shops. Remember, you need more crockery than you think so have fun rummaging! |
