Jenny Jones was born in Norfolk in 1954, and brought up in Shropshire. She went to school in Hertfordshire, and after leaving school went to Florence for five months to study part time with the painter Russell Foreman. On her return, she did a foundation course at Shrewsbury Art School, followed by a degree course at Farnham, graduating in 1976. She began to exhibit oil paintings while teaching part time.
Married in 1978 she stopped painting for a child rearing break and in 1983 began painting in watercolours and was painting and exhibiting regularly by the time the family moved into Wales in 1992. There Jenny began to paint on a larger scale, painting mainly the farming community in Powys, and exhibiting widely in the following years.
In 1996 she represented Wales at the Interceltic Festival in Brittany, and in 1998 she was involved in a series of six educational programmes for Channel 4 and the BBC. She was one of six people filmed working in the arts, and featured in the programme which concentrated on painting.
She has won prizes for drawing and painting in England and Wales, and has had paintings in both the 2006 and 2008 biennial Wales Portrait Award exhibitions.
Jenny started illustrating in 1998, and “Danny and the Great White Bear” written by Anne Cottringer was published by Macmillan in September 1999. “Happy Birthday Amelia” by Nicola Moon and published by Pavilion, followed in October 1999. “When I Grow Up” by Lenny Gooding, was published by Macmillan in 2000. “The Sand Bear” by Shen Roddie, was published by Bloomsbury in 2002 and “Harry’s Box” was published in 2003. “One Bear Lost” and “Just One More Swim” were published by Parragon Books in 2008.

What you will do on the course The course will start with a talk on Jenny's illustration work on Friday 21st. On Saturday morning we will be working on developing characters and ideas, talking about publishers and agents and over the weekend we would aim for each student to produce a collection of thumbnail sketches, a character and one or more illustrations, depending on your own natural pace of work.
In addition, Ian has worked in children's publishing for over 26 years as a book designer and worked very extensively with illustrators. He will always be on hand and very happy to offer any additional assistance or practical advice throughout the course. Similarly, Jane has been a children's book illustrator for many years and will also be happy to help.
